Internet Marketing
Internet Marketing is the use of the internet to promote and sell
products and services. Internet marketing utilizes a variety of
online promotional tools including web sites, e-mail, online advertising,
pay per click ads, e-books and many others. Loosely defined, internet
marketing can be considered as, any online activity which promotes
your business or helps to meet your business objectives.
Beyond simply advertising a product or service online, the internet
can be used to conduct marketing surveys, convey marketing messages,
conduct market tests, gather research and support offline marketing
objectives. These goals must be included in any description of internet
marketing activities.
A web site should be considered a marketing tool. Any commercial
web site acts as the online representative of a business. As with
many aspects of life, first impressions are important. A professionally
designed web site reflects favorably on your business. A web site
can serve many roles, including customer service, but the primary
focus of any commercial web site should be to market a business.
Internet marketing differs in several ways from offline or traditional
marketing techniques. Online promotions are available to consumers
every minute of the day. Online advertising is instant and immediate.
Online advertising is global in scale it can help a business reach
a global audience. Internet promotion often encourages interaction.
Compared to traditional media such as newspaper ads, television
yellow page listings and others, internet marketing is a low cost
yet high yield advertising option. Perhaps one of the greatest advantages
of internet marketing compared to off-line marketing efforts is
that internet marketing results are easily measured
As mentioned previously one of the main goals of internet marketing
is to attract visitors to a web site and ultimately increase online
sales. This is accomplished with a wide variety of methods including:
- Search Engine Optimisation
- Pay-Per-Click Search Advertising
- Link Acquisition
- E-Mail Marketing
As mentioned previously one of the main goals of internet marketing
is to attract visitors to a web site and ultimately increase online
sales. This is accomplished with a wide variety of methods including:
- Content. Sites with useful content attract visitors
- Trust. Issues of security, refund policies, any issue which
may interfere with the online sales process is addressed.
- Leads and Prospects. Web Sites which offer information about
products and services, content which helps the buyer make an informed
decision about a purchase.
- Customer Support. Sites designed to anticipate and answer customers
questions about a product or service.
- Web site usability and functionality. The concern here is offering
a site which is accessible to widest possible audience.
Internet marketing is concerned with more than just attracting
the largest number of possible visitors to a web site, it aims to
attract visitors who are already interested in your specific product
or service. It also aims to make the buying process for these visitors
as effortless as possible.
