Specific Targeted Keyword Strategy
Specific and targeted keywords and phrases are the search terms
that your potential clients and customers are searching for in relation
to your particular products and services.
For example: someone in Melbourne may be interested in hiring an
inexpensive accountant. The search term "cheap melbourne accountants"
is a specific and targeted key phrase. In contrast the term "accountants"
is broad and general.
There's a tendency when conducting searches online to begin a search
using a broad term and subsequently searching for more and more
specific terms. We call this drilling down or narrowing.
Search engine users quickly learn that a search for a general term
like, "accountant" will result in about a million web sites being
displayed in the search results. And most of these results won't
truly represent what the searcher is looking for. It's a waste of
time to sort through search results that really aren't relevant
to what's being looked for.
People tend to start with a reasonably descriptive search term and
then make adjustments to the term if search results are not satisfactory
to their needs. A search for "cheap melbourne accountants" might
turn into "inexpensive accountants in Melbourne" or "low cost Melbourne
accountant". These are simply variations on a theme, but it's important
to understand how these terms can provide different results.
Most search engine users try a few of these combinations of keywords
before feeling satisfied with the results. There may be several
combinations of key words that relate to your products and services.
These types of relevant search term combinations form the basis
of a specific targeted keyword strategy.
Once you understand what terms people are using online to find information
about your products or services you can incorporate these terms
into your web site's content and sales copy.
